Hey, Whoops....

No, you didn't do anything wrong. Most likely the dogs clamped down a little hard and there was some internal injuries. Shocky birds have a hard time pulling through anyway, but on the optimistic side you've gotta try as there's always that chance that things will turn out all right.

Chalk up the whole thing to Lessons Learned and move forward. Realize that where there's an opportunity for things to go wrong (space in fence, curious dogs, wandering chickens) that eventually things will go wrong and thus, as keepers of our feathered charges, we've got to be thinking two steps ahead of misadventure.

My Buff Brahma pullet was Grand Champion of the Four Corners Poultry Show. My son also went Grand Champion of the Youth Show.

We also had the Reserve Ch. Feather-legged and Champion Asiatic with a Black Cochin Pullet

Nice! Stiff completion at the only APA/ABA show in the state.

so i have never felt the need to join BYC. i live up north and i always visit this site as a guest. I would love to share my story if i may. I know i cant change whats been done but id like to help anybody i can. i have had such a hard time and i need to get it off my chest. I read Steen comments about mereks and i was rather sick to my stomach i bought cochins and ameraucana from Dak at the poultry swap and i had some die also. The sad thing is i had a flock of healthy birds for over 5 years and never had any issues. people who buy chickens from sellers at swaps should be very weary. Always ask if the flock is healthy and always make sure to ask if they have mereks or a flock that is resistant to mereks. If you have a healthy flock like i did for over 5 years and you add birds in that are resistant you will have some sick birds due to the fact that they have never been exposed to the disease before. I started to have her birds die within 8 days one died and the rest a week or so after some were resistant and held on. Sadly after about 3-4 months later i started to loose all my original birds one by one untill about a year later i had none of my originally healthy flock. they did not die of old age it was a horrid Mereks death. I read steens post and was sadden by it. It maid me really upset when i seen Dak say he was slandering. It is not slander if it is the truth. before his comments were removed i looked it up and found it for myself. Dak had mentioned it was last year but steen was right it was on 8/9 of this year post 1036 on page 104 Lavender Ameraucana Breeders .... UNITE - Page 104

where she says her birds have mereks and then is selling them on here 3 weeks ago. its rather sad the morals of some sellers who dont care about other peoples flocks they raise to many birds to keep healthy. they then pick the best ones to move forward with their breeding program and then all in the name of money sell off all the rest even if they are sick or carry a disease that they actually have but dont show signs of . a resistant bird has mereks but their system can fight it off so they dont show signs of the illness. non the less they have it and can pass it on to a weaker host. NM buyers beware of such low morals and people who only care about making money. I have read allot about mereks since my horrific loss and you can raise a flock that is resistant to it but if you dont ask the questions of the sellers and buy a resistant bird and add it to your flock you will give all your healthy birds mereks.

dak post you can find in the link above. posted this year like steen said. if its true its not slander.

My Lav juveniles are getting hit hard right now by Mareks. I had to cull two pullets yesterday. The Black Ams in the next pen, and the Blues and Lav Splits in the same pen are untouched.

Not cool. Apparently the recent split to Black didn't lend additional hardiness. I have to wonder if it is inherent to the color as seem in other species with the dilution gene. I won't own/breed Blue and Fawn Dobermans for this reason.

Hi everyone

I have ordered a new incubator and would like to find six local, fertile hatching eggs for it for the new year's hatchalong. I would love to find welsummer, or another dark egg layer, or crested cream legbars (hey, I gotta try) or olive egg layers, or any mix of the above. I am fantasizing about trying to breed the CCL's in the spring, so probably no blue egg layers as they would complicate things. It's a Brinsea mini advanced, so only six - seven eggs. This would be my very first hatch! It is the off season, but anyone have anything for me? If so, pm me.

Thanks for reading.

Wishing everybody a very Happy Thanksgiving!

So....how are you doing the bird this year?

Ours is a southwest theme: Brined and then rubbed with chipotle/lime/garlic and stuffed with a cornbred/chorizo/jalepeno/butternut squash dressing. The dressing is sort of a nontraditional orange color, but the flavor is divine.
