New Mexico

I am putting together an organic chicken feed group buy for Albuquerque (and any surrounding areas that want to come pick it up). To get the best price, we need to order 2500lbs (a full pallet) and the order will be placed once every TWO months, if we can get to the minimum each time.

When I called around, the best price in Albuquerque I could find for organic feed was $0.62lb, but they could not confirm for me that it was corn and/or soy free. The most expensive I found was $1.05/lb!

FEED DETAILS:
50lb bags for $28.95, which comes to $0.58/lb.
16% organic layer - NO corn, NO soy, NO canola oil.
You can see the ingredient list here: https://tinyurl.com/t77ahvh

If there is enough interest, we'll hopefully have our first order the end of January.
If you are interested in being a part of this group buy or you just have more questions, you can contact me directly at [email protected] and I'll send the form to you to sign up.
We have not had any interest, so I'm not putting this together. We did find a local person who is doing organic feed in a group buy. If you are interested in that, just let me know and I can get you in touch with him. Thanks!

I have problems with hawks carrying away my smaller chickens (bantams, silkies, chicks etc.) the'res also a bunch of dogs running loose and a stray cat colony. My roosters are pretty good at sounding the alarm, though they aren't very protective (I'm looking at you, Houdini,).

@MPJ I would make sure there is some hardware cloth partially buried to prevent predators from trying to dig underneath the fencing.

Thanks! I definitely have done a 2 foot apron around all perimeters. A goose wouldn't work either. "Technically" I am really not supposed to have chickens where I am but have 1/3 acre and have placed my coop strategically away from my neighbors so hoping my neighbors never know.

Ah, I see. Well your best bet for keeping on the down low is getting breeds that pretty quiet and make sure the chickens feel comfortable with their surroundings (the more commotion going on around the coop the more uneasy they'll be). Nervous chickens are chatty chickens. Also make sure there is plenty of ventilation and that the bedding is changed frequently so the neighbors don't get a whiff of chicken poop.

Recently moved back after 20+ years away. I live in the Abiquiu area and am just starting on chicks. Almost finished with the coop. Chicks are a week old and doing great. Have a 24/7 birds eye view on them.

Hello, finally found a NM thread. Thank you CSAchook!
I have so many questions.............I am new to backyard chickens. I have always known folks with chickens but never had my own. I have a house now and a big yard so finally want to get some this year.

Any coop ideas or may what has worked for you all in the past. We have a garden of veggies, fruits and plants so want to definitely build a longer run.We are not very handy but could probably build something from detailed instructions/plans/designs. I live in north valley, ABQ. We have coyotes, racoons, feral cats, and skunks every now and then.

Do we have chicken swaps here in the state or any one selling chickens locally?
Has anyone used privett Hatchery before?

I have so many questions :)
Thank you!
