I'm telling you, once you get a pure line of Lav/Barred EEs people will be knockin on your door. Just do your research on the Barred gene, it's sex linked. You might need to do a Barred rock boy to Lav girls. I think you need to look at it that way on the genetics calculator through the f2 generation.

Yeah, Ive been reading about it being sex-linked, so hens only have one barring gene- which makes it difficult to make them all uniform. Also, I wonder if the lavender will be too light to really show up on the hens, like with buff barred/lemon cuckoo hens...
We'll see!!!

Yes, if you use a Barred rock boy, both male and female will have a copy of the gene. Which will give you better results in the f2s esp. if only 1 in 4 of the f2s will be Lav.

I'll def keep that in mind... I've only got barred rock hen available now, so that's what I have to use, but am keeping my eyes open for a barred rooster- esp since I wanted to cross a barred roo on my production reds to make red barredbirds.

Hahaha- I WISH I was in bed in the mornings... I hit the ground running, setting out my husband's clothes for the day, make his breakfast and lunch, make myself something to eat while I drive to work, feed the dog and cat, feed and water all the chickens, start my husband's truck so it's nice and warm when he gets up, then I go to my mom's house and feed my pregnant mare and the young stallion- then off to work I go thirty miles away!

I just don't get on the computer until sometime much later in the day, IF I have time, with the meetings and work, and when I get home I'm cooking, cleaning, taking care of animals, training horses, and building pens- who's got time for the computer!!! LOL

Good morning BTW!

(It's almost 11:40 now, I just sent out my last patient for the morning so I have a few minutes to be on the computer. )

What are your plans for today?

Ah, I'm almost FREE now!!! Now to go home, feed all the critters, make some chili with the beans I put in the crock pot this morning, clean house, and maybe get a chance to workout- all must be done BEFORE dark, because once it ges dark I'm in BED!!!!

Sorry, for some reason I was not subscribed to this thread and never got any of the posts that followed! lol

I set them all at once and they hatched out from first pip to the last straggler in about 24 hours. Out of 30 eggs there were 2 that died without pipping and 2 that died in the first 6-8 hours and 1 that was an early quitter. The larger chicks I set along with them and moved at lockdown to another incubator. I set 3 incubators in a 10 day time period and never wrote down dates...I will NEVER do that again!

Too nerve wracking!
