New Mexico

They also have all sorts of fun contests that go along with the Hatch-along, like 1st chick hatched in the Year 2014, Guess the number of eggs set overall, Guess the number of chicks hatched, and a few others.

I won the New Year's Day Chick of 2012...Got a nice Golden Feather membership for it....and peace of mind staying home and not being out amidst the drunken crazies. If you've got an inkling to hatch anything this time of year, then by all means join in.

(My coop is not built at my new place, so no entry for me this year)

Silkies by George is not active. I emailed him and he said he's not breeding anymore. I asked if he knew anyone else in the ABQ area who was, and he said "No one raises Silkies, i killed the competition." Okay, then. I will assume that was a figure of speech...

So the Silkie search is still on.

I raise Silkies near Las Cruces! They are not show quality, and potentially have Rhode Island Red in them, but they are incredibly sweet chickens that lay eggs like little machines! I have a broody sitting on about a dozen eggs at the moment, but due to the weather im not sure if they will hatch or not :(

I am looking for an incubator! Does anyone know where I can get one in either Las Cruces or El Paso? (Or anywhere in between?)

hi i dose any one around here know where i can get goose eggs i live more toreds alamogordo and was wondering and i might be interested in some of those silkie eggs when you get some avalible

I was wondering if anyone knew of a place in ABQ where you could pay to have chickens processed (if you were (like me) a bit of a wimp?) Also, are there classes on chicken keeping stuff?

Good question on the "chicken keeping stuff" - we are new to this and am learning from blogs, BYC , books and Facebook pages. Need something local.

For "chicken keeping stuff" there might be an Extension course at the university.

For chicken dispatching check the phone book for family butcher shops that process meat (i.e. pigs, cattle, sheep). They may be able to do a bird for a (not necessarily inexpensive) cost.

Hi. I've got a New Mexico question. After visiting 30 years ago, I am having these strange urges to come back to New Mexico. In fact, I have day dreams about actually moving there. What rural areas are there that are affordable and commutable to Albuquerque? I'd want a few acres with trees. Thanks!
