Wow! 200 pages on New Mexico?! Usually I'm lucky if I can convince people we are really a state! Hi, I'm up in Farmington (well, Aztec but same difference). I just got started in chickens- and right now I have two Swedish Flower hens (under a year old so still technically pullets), I'm about to get two more- and my best friend surprised me with an early Christmas gift of a pair of Black Swedish hens (in swedish it's Svart Höna, I'm not sure the logic of saying hen when they are both male and female, but I'll go with it). They will be coming in about 8 weeks. I'm SUPER excited about that! So I will have 4 SFH (pullets) and a pair of BSH (a roo and a pullet). Sorry, I'm figuring out the terminology as I go here.
My best friend lives in Rio Rancho and I visit her often. On one of my trips down we had to go to the feed store to buy something, and there were day old chicks. She had always wanted chickens, but her husband said no. Well, he was out of town at the time and since I'm "that friend" she went home with 3. And then we drove back later and got two more. Eventually she ended up with 10 chickens, haha! And with fresh eggs her husband approves! As a special Christmas gift I bought her two SFH because my boyfriend and a good friend of hers at the time was from Sweden. She adored them; but sadly one got caught on some wire in the coop and the other (slightly older) chickens attacked and killed her. And then they began to pick on the odd girl out. I agreed to take her because of the special connection (even though I was not planning on chickens!) I found someone selling their coop and so began my life with (a) chicken. But no one told me how addicting they were! I decided also that she should have company so I worked on getting her another SFH to keep her company. Of course I had to wait out the hot summer but now that it's cooling down she'll be getting some company in her coop. I also found another coop for sale in colorado at a great price and I'm working on getting it brought down here for um, haha- later projects

I'm totally addicted to the scandinavian breeds. But I'm slightly biased that way

Anyway- that's how I got into chickens. I also have 4 parrots, 4 ferrets, 2 dogs, 2 cats, and a corn snake. (And no husband or children which is why I can get away with this). Although I do have to steal my friend's husbands (or their power tools) occasionally when something needs repairs. Sadly I don't think I'll be reading 200 pages of where everyone else is in the state... I'm just going to assume mostly in the Albuquerque area?
