New Mexico

The rooster has a new home! Now I am looking for adult laying hens. I am wanting a variety of breeds, not to picky, just want pretty hens with big eggs! Does anyone know where I can find some near Las Cruces? I already checked Landmark, they only have chicks.
Also check hollomanyardsales.com (this is an Alamogordo site similar to Craigs list). I'd offer up some brahmas, but I don't really have any that I can let go except for one bantam dark.

You can also take a trip down to the county fairs and at least get some contact info for those that are showing chickens. They often have some adults for sale.

Anyone know where I can get some quail chicks or eggs? Only need a couple of chicks, have a chick that was hand raised from 1 day old, tried to release it but that didn't work out. Need a couple of companion birds for it.

Ah. Check craigslist. I see them all the time up here in abq. There's a place here in belen called wilber's farm that sells chicks & eggs. Web is their name. Good luck!

Wow! 200 pages on New Mexico?! Usually I'm lucky if I can convince people we are really a state! Hi, I'm up in Farmington (well, Aztec but same difference). I just got started in chickens- and right now I have two Swedish Flower hens (under a year old so still technically pullets), I'm about to get two more- and my best friend surprised me with an early Christmas gift of a pair of Black Swedish hens (in swedish it's Svart Höna, I'm not sure the logic of saying hen when they are both male and female, but I'll go with it). They will be coming in about 8 weeks. I'm SUPER excited about that! So I will have 4 SFH (pullets) and a pair of BSH (a roo and a pullet). Sorry, I'm figuring out the terminology as I go here.
My best friend lives in Rio Rancho and I visit her often. On one of my trips down we had to go to the feed store to buy something, and there were day old chicks. She had always wanted chickens, but her husband said no. Well, he was out of town at the time and since I'm "that friend" she went home with 3. And then we drove back later and got two more. Eventually she ended up with 10 chickens, haha! And with fresh eggs her husband approves! As a special Christmas gift I bought her two SFH because my boyfriend and a good friend of hers at the time was from Sweden. She adored them; but sadly one got caught on some wire in the coop and the other (slightly older) chickens attacked and killed her. And then they began to pick on the odd girl out. I agreed to take her because of the special connection (even though I was not planning on chickens!) I found someone selling their coop and so began my life with (a) chicken. But no one told me how addicting they were! I decided also that she should have company so I worked on getting her another SFH to keep her company. Of course I had to wait out the hot summer but now that it's cooling down she'll be getting some company in her coop. I also found another coop for sale in colorado at a great price and I'm working on getting it brought down here for um, haha- later projects ;)
I'm totally addicted to the scandinavian breeds. But I'm slightly biased that way :D Anyway- that's how I got into chickens. I also have 4 parrots, 4 ferrets, 2 dogs, 2 cats, and a corn snake. (And no husband or children which is why I can get away with this). Although I do have to steal my friend's husbands (or their power tools) occasionally when something needs repairs. Sadly I don't think I'll be reading 200 pages of where everyone else is in the state... I'm just going to assume mostly in the Albuquerque area?

Hello from Belen! South of albuquerque. It seem like most here are from Southern NM. I can see that chicken math has struck you & your friend! Welcome to BYC! We have a mixed flock of 12. Little bit of everything plus a pair of ducks & 3 guineas. Also have 5 dogs, 4 cats, a horse & we too have a corn snake.

No, seems to me that most are from Northern NM, although it may actually be about 50/50. Anyway, hello from the southern part of the state! I'm a Brahma girl, so that is all that I have (partridge or golden as we are planning on calling them for the SOP and darks). Welcome to chicken math!
