New Mexico

Thanks FridayYet, appreciate the offer, but this morning i went up to Simms farm and picked up a real pretty Americauna cockerel.
It was a little weird introducing him. I’m used to hens pecking eachother and a little chasing but this was different. At first he was fine to walk around in there but pretty soon every single chicken in the run would peck him if he came near. He ended up on a corner afraid to go anywhere. I put him up on a roost which he seemed to like.... I had to leave for the afternoon so i’m Not sure how it played out but when i got home he was roosting with everyone so i guess it wasn’t too bad... Ironically the other cockerel was probably the nicest to him, all the hens were rejecting him which was not what i had expected... We’ll see how it goes tomorrow.

Not too sure, but i was talking to them at the feed store the other day about worms. They said you can usually see them in their droppings. If in doubt they recommended mixing in diamotaceous earth into their feed a couple times a year.
The nice thing about the diamotaceous earth is that there is nothing bad that will end up in the eggs/meat. Just make sure not to breathe any of that stuff in when mixing it with their feed, its bad for your lungs because of the particle shape/size...

Hey Justin, welcome to BYC. Great resource for info and a lot of friendly folks.
We used to live over by UNM and have had a couple different back yard flocks. We just moved to Corrales and I just started my first ‘big’ flock (26 chx). Just found a sick one today, so knock on wood, it doesn’t spread...
What kind of birds and coop design did you go with?

Hey Peter! Nice to meet you. We ended up getting the coop the four chickens had with their previous owner. It's a prefab one, similar to the one sold at Dan's on 4th. I'm pretty sure I've got a Wyandotte, a Ameraucana, a Delaware, and another one that I'm not sure about. It's black with white spots. Do you know what it is? I'm sorry to hear about your sick chicken. I hope the others stay healthy!

Justin, shoot a picture and we’ll try to ID her. Lots of different breeds and then you get the Heinz 57 breeds too so who knows...

Thanks Friday; she started sleeping and gurgling when she breathes this afternoon. I just got a couple Cochins last week from a guy up the road so i wonder if thats what introduced a bug?
I have her quarantined for now. Plan on going to Petsmart tomorrow morning and buying their fish grade erythromycin and treating her water with it. Also debating on just treating the whole flock; normally i might just wait a bit and observe but we’re going to be out of town from mon-thurs so i don’t have that option. What do you think?

Here's a picture of the one I'm unsure about. I think I've got the others all figured out. Thanks for helping me identify her!
