Thank you. Great ideas! As long as there's adequate shade and windbreak, heat and cold are not a problem provided there's adequate food and water. When it gets REAL hot, I will hose down the shaded sand run to provide additional cooling and feed watermelon and cukes (sometimes frozen).
Sorry about the delay Zoomie... Yeah the bestnest box has a large roll out; when you put it together you choose if the roll out tray is in the front or the back. The back worked best for us so we can get eggs without going inside. So far works great, nice clean eggs. Only have a few chickens just starting to lay now and for the most part they are getting the eggs where they need to be... This will be nice when they're all using it reliably.Peter.J that looks really cool! Does it have a roll out place for the eggs or something? How does it hold a hundred eggs? Also it looks like you can collect eggs from the outside, is that right? Very awesome.
I've got 7 pullets I expect will start laying in a month or so. I'm just using traditional open wooden boxes at this point. However one of those units might be really nice. I will have to check that out for sure.
Thank you! I have been collecting a bunch of supplies. I am very excited to get some chicks started soon.Welcome Higginj, now's a great time to get started with some chics; NM has pretty good weather for chickens. Most of these breeds were bred to live through Michigan winters etc, if anything you'll find the heat here is more of the issue, but Santa Fe doesn't get too hot. Go find a large cardboard watermelon box and turn it into a brooder (lights, litter, feeder, waterer) and go get some chics asap. They're in the feed stores and all over craigslist these days.
Just geting started at this I have 16 Cortnixquail now. With chicks on the way.I am a 68
year old retired truck driver with time on my hands.
This seems like a good way to fill it.![]()

I'm 69 I bet you will do real well raising that type of Quail . If I hadn't just ordered a bunch of miniature silver apple yard ducklings. That's what I should have ordered.Just geting started at this I have 16 Cortnixquail now. With chicks on the way.I am a 68
