New Mexico

Can anyone take in Pekin ducks around El Paso? One of my friends messaged me about taking in ducks, and when i asked why he said his parents gated community had pekin ducks in their 5 lakes, and they bred quickly, and now there are 50 of them. Apparently they cannot take care of this many, smh 🤦‍♀️, and have to get rid of them somehow. HE said they would have to have them homed, or they would need to stop feeding them and butcher them. They will probably have to butcher some of them, which is expected for drakes, but 50 ducks seem like a lot to have to kill. Does anyone know of anyone that can take some in in El Paso or Las Cruces area? I am posting in Texas and New Mexico state forums.

We are downsizing and have not replenished our flock in several years. This morning, I lost a hen and now have just one left. She is 7 years old and was still laying last fall. She was mourning the lost of our hen this morning, so will be lonely on her own. I'm in Albuquerque, NM if you can help me find a new home for her.

Can you tell me a little more about her and how you lost your hen (disease?). How is her temperament, what is her breed, etc. Thanks!

Tumbleweedlynn, She's a Black Australorp. Her disposition is amazing---so gentle. She is my best layer of all the hens I've ever had, my best broody mama---raised several of my chicks. She's smart and friendly with us. She outlived them all.because I had a coyote incident 2 years ago and lost half my flock. Only 4 of my older hens remained. The hen I recently lost was due to old age. That hen was 6 years old. She had an extended and difficult molt this fall and issues with the cold this winter, walked slower each day and then quietly died at night.

Have you tried Craigslist? Also, there are several feed stores in the north valley and Tijeras that can probably point you in the right direction, as far as rescue. I use the Valencia County agricultural group on FB when I need to rehome (I had several cockerels), and these people are a really loving and attentive community. I wish I could take her but I have 18 pullets and my hands full. Maybe Bernalillo County has a similar FB group? I will post in VC group you are looking for a loving home for her. Can you attach a picture please? Good luck to you, I will let you know what I hear. ❤️

I am looking for geese. I am between Silver City and Las Cruces. Also want layers preferably as chicks I can raise. Not adverse to taking bantams also.
