Anyone who knows their geography could prolly figure out the Chihuahuan Desert is in NM, on the Tx side (as opposed to Az). They just wouldn't know the actual town.

I figure we're in the SW, too.

this is to luckyclucker, post #23 I had the same problem with dogs, so followed the dog home, he had one of my chickens in his mouth, and he got both barrels of my 12 guage shotgun. Told my neighbor I'd get anymore of his loose dogs same way. No problems after that.
If the dog gets in your coop and kills chickens, lock him in and call the law if you're shy of doing it my way. Leash laws are not enforced unless there's a complaint in most smaller towns.
Have raised bantams for forty years, and the only sure deterent seems to be to eradicate the dogs causing problems. Those who voted for the leash laws are the ones who at night turn their dogs loose. Sorry, I have no sympathy.

the snow has been falling all day, and since the sun made it over the mountain not a single flake has actually hit the ground... so I think the only thing the snow is here for is to give me a bad hair day!

Your comment wasn't directly for me but I've got two cents to add if you don't mind. No offense but I really hope you at least warned the dog owner before you blasted their dog to kingdom come. The reason I say this is I of course love chickens but I also love dogs. I love all animals. My mother and handicapped father have chickens as well but they also raise Belgian Malinois. Two of their 10 week old puppies squeezed under their fence and took off. The bigger dogs are on a wireless containment system so they can't escape but the puppies decided to go explore. They went up the hill and down the street and ended up chasing the neighbors chickens around. The didn't kill anything but also managed to spook their horses. The neighbor immediately shot both of them. The same neighbor didn't even have the sense of decency to make sure they actually killed the puppies right off. No they let them suffer. My 12 year old kid brother was the one to realize the puppies were gone when he heard them crying and found them trying to drag themselves home.

A simple call down to my parents house would have fixed the problem. They had no idea their puppies were lose and would have gone and gotten them in a heartbeat and made sure they didn't get out again. If they had done any damage to the property or their livestock they would have immediately reimbursed them. Those puppies were already sold to families. One was going to be trained as a search and rescue dog and one was going to be trained as an companion dog for a little girl. Not harping on you but really.... I hope I took this post the wrong way.
Would you shoot this?

Bill I'm pretty sure I saw an ad of yours on craigslist. I told my babysitter she needs to go buy some pheasants from you since she has a farm
