New Mexico

Well the bear returned again last night...He walked right past the trap and tore apart more of my coop. There were no chickens remaining in the coop it was attacking but I would imagine that its only a matter of time before it discovers there are 4 more coops. Game and fish are coming back out today to see what they can do. Now I think it is time for a nap...

What are they baiting the trap with? Maybe you could put something more attractive in it. Or maybe this bear has a history and is wise to traps.

they had the trap baited with bread and cantalope. They added 3 types of bear lure oils to the bread so that it would soak in and continue to release the scent. The warden says he is going grocery shopping for the bear and coming to rebait the trap. I found tracks from the bear within a couple of feet of the trap. I am beginning to wonder if its a repeat offender too... sigh...

Hi all,

I'm from Iowa, but have a friend in the Farmington, NM area (Bloomfield, to be specific) who really wants some Muscovy. Anyone have any, or can recommend somewhere in that area to buy a few?

Thanks!

Therese

No idea for the muscovies, but DAK has several true, pure Ameraucana hens for sale, and they are really nice birds for a great price! (If my chicken math hadn't already busted my chicken budget, I would be taking them home! Very nice birds!)

Thanks for the thought, but my friend and I are both trail riders, so he is looking for Muscovy to eat flies and spread the poop--a job that they embrace whole heartedly and do very well.

That said, if I were in NM, I would snap up those Ameraucanas in a heartbeat. Those and speckled sussex are my faves!

We have 19 horses and the chickens do a pretty good job of taking care of the flies
