New Mexico

either a bear or a mountain lion... not sure. No distictive tracks can only tell that the track was about the size of the palm of my hand. the dirt is so hard packed the tracks were just in the mulchy kind of material. either way, I just dont want to provide its next meal too!

Its a bear. The neighbor's dog that has adopted us sounded the warning at about 4:30 this morning. I turned on the spotlight I has rigged up and there she was! The light and the dog made scared her enough to head back into the woods. I am certain this is a problem that wont go away easily. I dont mind the bear being around really... but it tore into my coop like it was a sardine can!

Good news... Game and Fish came out and set a trap to relocate the bear. They said had it just gone for trash or animals left outside it would have been an issue of eliminating access to the food. However since the chickens were in a solidly built wood coop they need to get it away from the neighborhood. I was stunned to see a door ripped off the hinges and slide bolts tore from the coop. I know I am in his back yard but goodness... that is scary. Hopefully it will return tonight and have a new back yard tomorrow.

I have about 7 Ameraucana hens that are turning a year this month and next that are for sale. Black and Lavender. PM me for details. Also 4 young lavender cockerels for free.
