New Mexico

Hi Everyone! I just found this NM thread! (Thanks TikkiJane) I live in Roswell and I have 25 5 1/2 week old mixed layers. I'm still not sure what all of them are. I do know that I have 9 white Leghorns and 3 turkens.

Day number 852 of the giant Yogi hunt continues...ok so maybe its day 8 but it feels like more. The bear has not returned since Saturday but we are expecting him soon. The game warden said from the pictures he would guess Yogi is about 500 pounds. I do not wish to be the one responsible for feeding a 500 pound bear. A friend said he thought chicken was a diet food and thinks the bear is looking for a healthier lifestyle. Maybe I should put directions to the closest health food store on the trap. The lack of sleep is getting to me and now one of my pens of chickens (about 6 weeks old is sick) I am so not a happy camper...sigh

Of all things, we had a bear right behind our coop here in Roswell week before last!! They finally caught it and relocated it. They must really be hungry to be coming this far for food and water!

hmmm I wonder if they relocated your bear close to me...lol

Too bad they can't issue you one of those tranqulizer dart guns. Isn't there some law that you can shoot it to protect your livestock?

Wow! They are early birds for sure! Real go getters! lol Weren't they due TODAY? They must be eager to see me.... hehehe:lol:

Busy night. 12/14 are out. One pipped, and one internally pipped and holler'n.

I'm on the couch and will be for the day. Durn ******** horse. DH wants to take me to the hospital, but why spend the money so they can tell me I have cracked ribs, which they can't do squat about and a prescription for painkillers which will make me vomit and hurt worse.

Only got out of bed to move chicks from the incubator to the brooder (bathtub).

hahaha Yup, I'm on your side with the hospital thing... I should probably be on your hubbys side, telling you to go, but there really isn't much they will do for you and you will just come home with some nasty bug to make you sick in a week!!! LOL I'm breaking a few horses this year, and have a few green ones to ride too... sheesh. Horses... Let me ask, what were you doing when it happened?

Yay Lavs!!! I'm excited! How cute!!!

I tell ya, he's waiting for you to bait it with CHIKN!!! LOL Sorry you're going through that, I don't care for bears much, and none at all near the house! A few years ago a bear tore open my parents chicken pen and ate every single bird in there, feathers and all. Dad shot him...

dang bears. I always worry about one showing up again, I had one run by the back door about 4 years ago but hubby opped in the truck and chased that sucker a long way, shooting to scare him.
