New Peafowl owner with ?s (Updated Pics on Growth Changes)

Ok I was really off on the name of this stuff. Must be cus I was looking at other antibiotics at TSC.
The antibiotic is Denagard (tiamulin).

Phoenix is looking better today even though he is pretty crusty looking.

Well heading back outside to play n feed all the critters.

Here is a evening pic of Skyflower and Phoenix. You can see by the water how much they have grown. They are already out growing their current baby pen.
Phoenix is turned to his good eye. (Poor baby)

thanks

They definitely act like a couple. Phoenix is slowly improving. I think he would improve quicker if Skyflower would stop trying to pull his poor swollen eye lids off!

I cannot decide if she is just trying to help or get even for something.

She does enjoy having him follow her like a puppy.....hmmm maybe that is it.

Skyflower does help Phoenix find the tender shoots when they are in their play pen, she shows him where the water is, and where the food is; however, she does not really want to share the bugs.

Phoenix now rides on my arm from the coop to the play pen. I like this better as he likes to poop on me right when I am putting him in the play pen. When he rides on my arm I do not get pooped on. Skyflower won't do this as she will just fly off. However, she did go for a shorter arm ride. The swelling on his bad eye has gone down to were he can see a bit more through it. The denagard seems to be helping more in conjuction with the eye ointment.

Just found out everyone is out of the eye ointment I am using and I need another tube. Terramycin eye ointment is sold out and on back order; but, I need it now!

One site suggests Vetericyn Ophthalmic Gel as an alternative. Has anyone tried this?

Tuesday was a roaster with high of 105 degrees...all the birds got frozen blueberries as a treat when I got home.
Lost 1 of my chickens due to the heat. She was my prettiest BLR Wyandotte. Poor Ruby.

Despite the high temps both Skyflower and Phoenix are doing good. Phoenix has been opening his right eye more and it is half the crusty it was. As he is healing the crusty bumps are just sloffing off (The smaller bump over his left eye already sloffed off). The stuff around his eyes in the pictures below actually came off this evening before I put them up. His right eye now looks like an old lady's saggy eye. But it is a sign that he is continuing to improve. The skin underneath all that crusty scap is raw n tender. He was not happy about Skyflower trying to peck him there. I am hoping that the redness is gone by the morning. I will be checking on him before I go to work as I do not want him to get hurt from pecks due to redness.

I added a pile of fresh sand into their play pen. They had fun exploring the sand pile.

I love this pose of Skyflower. He is getting prettier by the day. More specs of irredescent green feathers are coming in around his shoulder area and neck.

Well, it looks like Phoenix is not the only Romeo in this pair. Skyflower was being smooched by an admirer.
(This pullet always comes over and touches beaks with Skyflower like they are kissing when the peas are in their playpen)

I am soo happy that Phoenix is making progress.

And I am enjoying watching them transform as they grow older.

Im getting 2 year old peacocks soon and have 6 acres and a chicken pen with a 3 foot fence. it keeps the chickens in and im hoping the peacocks will fligh over it and back over to sleep. will they fly back over and stay on my land?

One of the more experienced keepers can give you a better reply.
I am pretty new to having peafowl and am learning myself.

Phoenix now will ride on my arm from his baby pen to their play pen.
Skyflower is quick to fly away and does not like being handled.

I got them as babies so they will hopefully grow up knowing the big coop is their home.
As they get older they will be free ranged with the hope of being able to put them up in the big coop at night.

I have no idea how the older peas will react to their new home, so hope others can offer you some good tips.

Unless you are incredibly, amazingly lucky, no, not if you just put them in the pen and hope for the best. When you buy adult birds you should be keeping them penned for a period of time (long enough for them to settle down and realize they are safe, and that this is where food and water are.. this may be days, months, and it's possible there is no amount of time that will keep them on your land). Even so, there's always a chance with free ranging peas that they'll just plain leave.
