New Possum....on my Patio...

I'd be worried about giving them food as you'll just attract more and more and more. Just slowly reduce available food and they will find other easy sources, just make sure you close the coop door.

I've never had any trouble with more being attracted, there are 3 different ones that come around here, never more than one on the same night, and they come around one or two nights a week.

Just my experience here, don't know about other locations.

i have a possum & a white skunk that comes around and eats our table scraps on a daily schedule.but they eat the scraps and go on thier way.but my coop and runn is like fort knox lol.

I am torn now about whether or not to run it off, take it off or feed it! I don't want to attract more and I can see Silkie's point, after all if there is plenty of food, so why not tell your friends and family, lol!! But,if it doesn't bother my cat or get into my backyard then I guess it isn't a problem...course my neighbors have not weighed in on it yet either!!!

I recently chased one out of the yard, it was so fat it had belly rolls. I too think if there is enough other food around they won't go after chickens. Here they dine on animal food from all my neighbors homes. I've heard, from an animal educator, that their food drive is so high that they won't back off until they're finished. It is even higher than their drive to mate or survive.

I have not had another possum visit!! I still have to cat food on the porch and have sneaked up to the door several times in the early evenings the past two nights but no loud crunching and the cat food is mostly still there with only the cat eating it! We've told eeryone about it though, lol! My daughter went back to NCSU yesterday and probably told all her friends so the possum is famous ...but gone, lol! Maybe the crazed barking dachshund was too much for it, haha!! If he had seen her in her pink jacket, being a doggie diva, he would not have run off, haha!!

I was going to say...I'm not sure I agree with the one poster who said they'd move on...but yours seems to have ***scratches head***

Mom and dad have been feeding Zero for over a year...same goes for the coons...the most common "drifter" is Pepe, the skunk...sometimes he's around...sometimes he isn't.

The coons are the ones we see every night...and even Zero...and they all seem to enjoy dining with the stray cats.

It's CRAZY.
