New post vs recent post?

From the home page I get a choice of new post or recent post. I do not see a difference when I click. New post are not new , granny done it again, welcome to my pond and on and on...
I would love it if it actually linked to new post, as in NEW. Recent post is what both links lead to as far as I can tell. Am I missing something?

You are also missing as well as I that when I post to an older thread, it does not pop up in ether.
I think only the relatively new threads, and those with a lot of horsepower.Active, or Popular get recognition.
