New predator gun.... need help.

appqrently, hubby was looking at "my problem" online last night too - he showed me this just now...

""CCI Velocitor Ammunition 22 Long Rifle 40 Grain Plated Lead Hollow Point Box of 50

CCI is known in the shooting sports industry for having reliable ammunition that delivers exceptional performance time and time again.

Velocitor ammunition provides controlled expansion for excellent stopping power on small game animals and varmints as well as larger pests like coyotes. Loaded with CCI primers, the Velocitor generates 22% more energy than other hollow point rounds, and, since it's loaded with Speer's Gold Dot Hollow Point bullet, weight retention will remain close to 100%. This ammunition is new production and non-corrosive.

Ballistics Information:

•Muzzle Velocity: 1435 fps

•Muzzle Energy: 183 ft. lbs""

he did some research and just about everyone said these are better than Stingers, so maybe I need to be looking for these - or even buy it online. box of 50 rounds at this site is 6 bucks. 3X more than the cheaper stuff, but worth it if it does the job without my having to spend 500+ bucks on a new gun.

but if I come across one of those .223 cheaper than usual, I'll grab it.

cci makes the minimag and the stinger,I wasn,t aware of the new ammo,as of now I have about 3000 rounds of cci minimag and the standard 22 mag I need to feed before i can buy more, sounds like your on the right track, keep us posted on your findings,we all have to deal with varmits,,,,

Well, Walmart sucks

they had no .22 ammo at all - they had the stinger and mag ammo bin tags - but out of everything. They didn't have the newer ammo - I may find that at the gun shop (they were closed until Monday)

I did, however, put about 200 rounds through the .22 today, practicing my longer range targets. I didn't do too badly - hit at least 60% of the time long range (need more practice on that) close range I was pretty deadly to the target - missed maybe 4 or 5 times out of 100.

Short range I was shooting pop cans, long range I was shooting a coffee can. Long range was about 100 yards - not sure on the short range, maybe 30 yards at most.

so, I'm still looking for that ammo - if the gun shop doesn't have it monday, I'll find the best price online and just buy some. I'll post the "best price link" here so you all can check it out.

had fun, but I'm ready to eat dinner and do chores and rest for the night

Well, every place I looked online has the Velocitor ammo on backorder, or it just says "out of stock".

I did a search for CCI distributors near me, and found one the next town over - gonna call them monday to see if they have any. I'll probably get some of that and some of the Stinger if they have it.

who would have ever thought, even 5 or so years ago, that ammo would be so hard to find??!!

Guess it's a good thing I'm stocked up on a lot of different ammo - just not the one I'm looking for

Too funny!

My DH is also an avid hunter/shooter/collector and I was having the same problem. The .22 is easy and cheap to shoot, but doesn't have the knock-down power at the distances that the coyotes are usualy at.

He brought me down a Browning .270 bolt action. I'm 5'6" avg. build, and I handle this rifle easily. Blasted my first coyote with it at around 70 yards a couple of weeks ago. It has enough power to spare and while I can feel it when I shoot it's just a little bump, nothing close to what I'd call a kick. I'm really happy with it.

Your right the 22 is a good gun for getting most of the pred problems resolved plus they are fairly cheap to practice shoot with as well, but the 270's are also very good guns for hunting and plinking those yotes with.. One thing with the 5.56 AR you can get pretty cheap rounds yet of military surplus to run through them..

Is that an AK dressed up for yotes..Lol

Just found this post and could add 2 cents please. I was given a .22 long Remington match master 513-t. It must be from the 60's. It's as accurate as your eyes. There's a 6 round clip that will take shorts. The shorts are much quieter then the longs and at 100 feet they do the job. The longs on the other hand make a real racket!
My primary target up 'till now was red squirrels as they keep trying to get in the attic to have their young. They are so frickin' noisy and make a mess of things. Then the ground hogs started burrowing under our decks and killing our shrubs.
Now we have coyotes and I have 10 week old chickens. The coop and attached run below it should be predator proof but God help the first one that even shows itself as my eyes are good.
We live in what I would call central northwest New Jersey on 6 acres of what was soy beans and now is pretty wooded and am amazed there are so many coyotes! Hello to you all.
