New Project "Road to Ok" Quilt for My Bed (Top Finished!)

Cyn, you may have to go out on the porch to quilt since it will be cooler out there

Need to have the lumber yard make you a large cedar hoop? Many years ago I decided I was going to quilt and had the lumber yard make me up a quilt frame...they did for very little money at the time. I set that thing up in my front room and put everything on it and all and then discovered I couldn't quilt???

I really needed someone to show me how they did it. I could put the needle in but couldn't bring it back up.

I tried loosening the layers, etc. anyway, that ended up being a tacked quilt.

Carrie, you should have seen the first bit of quilting I ever did. The stitches were about 1/4" wide, LOL. I improved to where once I was accused of machine quilting a piece, though I'd done it by hand and couldn't operate a machine if you paid me! Now, my stitches are a bit more erratic since I developed carpal tunnel and my vision is really bad, but I still try (and I think it's better than alot of the cheap Walmart quilts where the stitching looks like it was done by a five-year-old) I can do it in a hoop on my lap, but my gosh, that quilt is so heavy! It would probably top a king sized mattress, but I will be using it on my queen sized bed, so it will hang over the edge nicely.

Cyn, when you are quilting in the lap quilt, have you tried putting a chair in front of you to hold the excess quilt weight?..I have to do this or it wears my arms out. I use one of my dining room chairs.

Haven't tried that, but I know I had a devil of a time with the bulk of whatever I'm sewing sliding off the DR table and dragging when trying to sew a long seam. I'll have to do that today when I continue.

Kathy, I already used one of the Jinny Beyer borders you sent on that tablecloth I was making. I was stumped about the next border and BAM!, there it was in front of me.

Cyn the top is beautiful! Sorry about your hoop but I sure would love a wood burning stove in my living room.

I need to start quilting again, I have more cotton fabric than I could ever sew (I worked at a fabric store for years!).
