New puppy dying of Parvo... (BOWEL MOVEMENT PICTURES WARNING)

So the pup is pregnant, has parvo and hookworms????? My god.

No no no no no...she's not pregnant!!! LOL

You know how women pee on a chemically sensitive stick and it is positive when the hormone is detected in a certain amount? They can test for parvo the same way. The virus has chemicals that will show "positive" when you place some feces on the chemical stick that is sensitive for the chemicals.

Please keep in mind, that while vaccinating properly is very important, it's not a guarantee that your puppy won't get parvo. A puppy's immune system is not fully developed or as strong as an adult dog. While the vaccines will give them protection, it is not always 100%. It's still a really good idea to limit the dogs your puppy comes in contact with. (make sure they are fully vaccinated and healthy, etc)
At the ER where I work, when one of us handles a parvo puppy, we don't touch any dog under a year of age for the rest of the night, regardless of whether or not they are vaccinated. It's such a 'hot' virus, it's just better to be safe.

Depending on the mother's immune system she will either pass on a little or a lot of immunity to Parvo. If it is a lot, it will interfere with the first set of immunizations. And as her passed on immunity declines in the puppy, there is a "window of susceptibility" in the puppy between vaccines. This is very common. So even if someone is doing everything perfectly, there is always a possibility of a puppy getting parvo!! Really scarey stuff~!

Will using bleach kill Parvovirus? If so, I would clean everything the puppy was exposed to with a bleach solution.

Good luck. My mother had a Chi puppy that had parvo and he made it.

I'm sorry to hear about your dogs.

I hope everything is okay with them!

I'll hope and pray for you.

The vet tech just called from her cell phone -- puppy is still alive! She's slightly more perky but they're really hoping for some bowel movements. She is only 6 pounds but she is hooked up to 3 IV bags for hydration...that's 3000mL...something should be happening soon!

My closet had all sorts of shoes on the bottom and the puppy was laying in them getting sick everywhere. Should I just throw the shoes out?

If any of them are tennis shoes, you can throw them in the washer with lots of detergent and bleach. It won't ruin the color on most shoes, but it will disinfect them if you use enough bleach.
