New puppy new training help

I can provide a safe place and am definitely going to be working with him,and probably about as much and even more therapy then soem sanctuarys can.This isn’t the first puppy I have raised as I mentioned I only had him for a few hours as it’s obvious I wasn’t 100% sure he was this stubborn,the puppy is beginning to warm up as I mentioned in my post earlier,we will progress from here on out.

No I would neevr hit him or any of my animals,escpecially considering what he possibly has been though,I don’t get mad I get irrated.Will read up on breed,thanks guys.

Just a tip: you may already know this, but if you start to get irritated, you should end the training session.

I hope for the best for the puppy.

They are bred to have a mind of their own. It's what makes them great livestock dogs. They think for themselves and problem solve.

I haven't met one yet that I didn't like.

Have extra patience with him given his sketchy origins.

He is doing so well today.He still smells after a bath,any thing I can spray on him?lol.Were getting so much better response to the leash and learning.Need to work on food aggression as him and the puppy are defensive over their feed,but when these guys get bigger I plan on keeping them outside anyways,so that away my yard will be EXTRA protected as I have a German Shepherd who currently cant control herself around them she is so excited to have dogs with her energy if not more levels.

I don't think there is anything you can spray on him.

If he had a bad diet before the smell will likely take time to go away.
My big boys stunk to high heaven when we got them. Yes even after a bath (or three) they stunk.
It took a couple months on a good diet before the stink left.

Did you get all the fleas and ticks off the pup?

Any injuries or signs of infection found during the bath?

Nothing but the one wound in his hip,looks like he could have gotten stabbed or shot,don’t think it’s a bite as it’s fairly large (but small),and doesn’t have two holes.I am still removing ticks and got a whole bunch of stick tights out.

Awwwwwwww so cute! Do you feel safe letting them be close so soon without knowing much about your new pup? I would be paranoid about transmissible illnesses or parasites. Make sure if the pup has ticks or whatever else still that they don't hitch a ride on your original pup, too. I would try separating them at meal time because food aggression can escalate and cause problems. What is a stick-tight? Is that just an embedded tick or...?

I'm sorry to be a bit of a kill joy here, but I assume you are attempting to find his original owners?

LGD are not cheap, as you stated yourself. Most people don't spend a lot of money to mistreat an animal.

All of the injuries, and behaviors, can be attributed to a pup who has gotten lost and had to fend for himself for a time in the woods. The flinching you attribute to previous beating could easily be from the fact that he doesn't know you and you've spent hours picking his fur for ticks and stick tights. That's not pleasant for the dog. All puppies refuse the leash at first. Some more than others.

He is still a young pup who has been obviously alone for some time without care. He's scared. The fact that he has warmed as quickly to you as he has (within a day you are seeing improvements) indicates he is not terrified of people (from abuse) but more environment wary.

It is unfair to assume the prior owners abused and neglected him. They could be a loving family that is fraught with heartache that this little guy has been lost.

It’s little sticky weird things.
Just about anything the pup has as far as parasites the lab would likely already came in contact as their both live in the same area.He doesn’t have fleas but they do have appointments.
One thing I notice is Sam pees a lot,not sure if it’s a territory behavior as I was reading about these types of dogs peeing on their perimeters,he just peed twice outside and made a puddle inside my house,geesh.
I’m so concerned,his size is intimidating for my two grown dogs and his calm excited behavior worries the crap out of my German Shepherd,today she showed her teeth at him,will watch for behavior and hope it runs over smoothly it this little pack bond can keep on,maybe she is just setting the bar as she acts very nervous around him actually sometimes.
