new research debunks trad views on nutrition

Traces of mice and traces of birds are allowed in all flours for human consumption. It's almost impossible to keep those critters out of silos. And they get grounded together with corn and wheat seeds. It's normal really. Nobody wants it to happen but it can't be avoided. Just don't eat raw flour and all is good.

well that's quite a rabbit hole you've supplied us there!

I could spend a very long time working through some of the pages listed under chapter 5 https://www.fda.gov/inspections-com...ter-5-food-colors-and-cosmetics#SubChapter578

And it's good to see that the concept of Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points has arrived in the States, albeit in the form of *non-binding* recommendations as of 2022: https://www.fda.gov/media/110477/download

Here anyone wanting to sell eggs for consumption to the public through 3rd parties (via shops, restaurants etc.) *has* to undertake the HACCP process, and pass a test - in person not just on paper - on it, on site, with inspection. It is also the only route to being able to grade one's eggs. It's probably why we have so few cases of food poisoning from eggs. The legalistic language used in these documents is very off-putting for ordinary people, but if one just stops whinging and engage, it's all perfectly sensible. And required because of the extremely litigious nature of modern society.

@Labsandchickens8 you might want to have a look at this page for some reassurance:
https://www.fda.gov/regulatory-info...578350-wheat-human-consumption-reconditioning
though if you don't touch wheat at all, it maybe irrelevant for you (but still reassuring for others in the USA who do).

Don't apologize on behalf of all others, that's not your responsibility and I don't think you really understand what you are saying.

It's also not the fault of the BB generation, it was started years before the BB gen . Many fell for The phrase "Better Living Through Chemistry" , a variant of a DuPont advertising slogan, but not everyone. I despise all the hatred that encompasses whole generations, just stop.
Oh I totally understand what I'm saying. Maybe ask before blurting next time.
My apology is for a political topic I won't get into here. I believe we have serious issues in this area and have abdicated our responsibility.
I was kidding about the BB generation apologizing for the environmental problems. Hardy Har. I will be more careful on that subject next time.

We keep dairy cows and we mill our own corn. It's really hard to keep the pigeons out of the milling machine and they're so dumb they easily get sucked into the grinding mechanism.
once upon a time we could buy apple juice direct from a farm. It was unfiltered and cloudy and tasted delicious. I was reliably informed some years later that there were sometimes things besides apples in the press, which had somehow got caught up in the process, and that everyone involved believed they contributed that special something to the flavour :p:lol:

And we survived to tell the tale.

And none of us have allergies or autoimmune diseases. I wonder if our immune systems go haywire in the absence of real threats to fight off...

My mother was a big believer in a dirty childhood being good for immunity.
I remember her mother-in-law (my grandmother) being horrified that she let me eat I had pulled out of the ground.

I think so. Real threats, or maybe the types of threats. My dad taught 8th grade, he used to tell his students who had acne (when they asked him), to go disc a field. Most of them were either farm kids or had relatives who were farmers. If they couldn't do that, a second best option was to eat a few carrots with some good, clean dirt on them. It was good for keeping the skin healthy and for the immune system.

But I think it is only part of reason so many people have immune issues. Exercise, enough sun, enough sleep, good sleep... And, the reason I still follow this thread - eating things that superficially resemble food but aren't food. And/or not eating enough food because we are eating such things instead.

Sounds like the recipe for a certain scrumpy hard cider 😂

I was getting feed from a couple farmers that milled. Occasionally I would find feet, bones from rodents and birds. One time there was a larger bone and part of a guinea feather. Didn't bother me or the poultry.
It was great feed and I was sad when he sold the farm.
