I just got a new roo yesterday and i havent seen him mate with one of the hens yet... Should he have? Does it just take some time? or do some roosters just not get it? he is 2-3 years old and i think he is beautiful. The hens seem to like him a lot better than our last roo but i think that is because he was a rough mater.. I know that some roosters you will never see mate but they are getting the job done.. any thoughts?

It's too late now, but you should have quarentined him for at least 30 days to make sure you aren't bringing in a disease to your flock.

I already know.
I did check him over befor i put him in and he had no mites, and no apparent deseases. I just dont really quarantine any of my new birds unless they appear sick because i just dont have enough pens at the moment. i might regret it someday, but i guess lesson well learned?

I'm sure he will get busy soon. Probably getting the pecking order in place and like you said you may just be missing it. I wouldn't worry.

I got a roo that didn't do the deed until he was 9.5 months old... and he's still working on it.
