Hi I recently acquired a 5 most old Silkie rooster and currently have 4 faverolles hens about 8 most old. I have him in quarantine currently and read that Silkies cannot roost like a normal chicken. I've read you have had both. We built our coop this January in Central Oregon for our Salmon Faverolles, and weren't planning on a rooster but now have a 5 month old Silkie rooster in the laundry room. I was hoping to integrate him in a week or so but recently read they cannot fly at all. OOP's. our roost is 36" off the ground with the tray beneath it at 26" from the ground. Do you think a ramp will be sufficient ? or will we need shorter roost for him closer to the ground? My coop is insulated but not heated.View attachment 2609739View attachment 2609744
That being said it gets to be zero degrees here at night in the winter. Will he be ok down below on his own or will he do better with some friends? Chicken math at work for sure. Thank you for any help or suggestions . here are some pics of my coop.
