Hi Everyone!
We brought home pullets 4 years ago and have enjoyed the experience without much drama or challenges. We've decided to grow the family and just brought home two little baby chicks and are quickly realizing, they need A LOT more specialized care than our pullets did! They are so dang cute!!
We have two older chickens (Barred Rock & Easter Egger) and our little babies are an Olive Egger and a Biefelder. All purchased from Dare 2 Dream Farms. Our pullets love my 13 year old daughter but don't let anyone else pick them up so we are hoping that by starting with them earlier...the new additions will accept us all! We love their fresh eggs but love interacting with them too.
We live in Encino on an acre of land so plenty of space for them to roam but keep them mostly in their coop and 20 foot run as our two dogs like to follow and eat their droppings. I'm not got to tell you what has happened too many times after the dogs ate too much of that.... but we let them out for a few hours a day most days of the week! We also have 2 fish and both my daughter and son are clamoring for a pig (but that's not going to happen).
I found BackYard Chickens while prepping/research for our pullets 3 years ago and often visit for amazing info! Now we are a bit desperate as one of our little chicks has some bloody poop and I'm on the fence about what to do! She does not seem lethargic in anyway so I can't decide if she's just expelling the intestinal lining or if she's sick (she has sneezed a bit too). One day was a lot of bloody poop but today, just a tiny smidge in some but the rest all looks normal. I went to the store this am and bought some Corid but when I see that most of the poop look ok now - I'm so confused!!! I would so appreciate thoughts on if I should treat them or wait to see if the bloody poop continues. Thanks in advance to all!!
