Hi everyone!

I am happy to be a new member of this community, but sadly I do not have any chickens yet. I joined to get some insight on where to start. We live one Cape Cod and have .4 acres with a fenced in backyard. However, we also have two dogs and neighbors all around. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
New to chickens

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

Currently don't have any, but would like to get two. Where should I get them? What age?

(3) What breeds do you have?

None. Interested in maybe a Buff Bantam? Not sure

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?

We just moved out here from the city. We love the idea of having another animal and knowing where our eggs are coming from.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

Hiking, gardening, biking, yoga

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

I live with my partner. No kids. Two dogs (large dogs). I am in grad school to become an SLP, my partner is a project manager for a local landscape construction company. We are excited to learn from you all!

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :D

I found BYC after doing some research about chickens and decided to join because I love learning socially.

@chiquidee - A big ole' BYC welcome! Best of luck researching what chickens you'd like to get. Don't forget, BYC has a sister site called The Easy Garden since you enjoy gardening!

Hello, it's nice to have you here with us! First, make sure you're legally allowed to have a flock. If so, I'd recommend you get at least 3...that way if something should happen to 1 of them, you won't be left with an unhappy, lonely single.

Best wishes!
