3 hens wandered over with a rooster 1 yr. ago. The rooster died or disappeared, 2 hens flew into my dog yard. the lone survivor is a black and white ??? lays light brown eggs, all over the property, does not sit on them. I have an egg hunt when she moves where she lays eggs.
6 months ago a beautiful young rooster appeared and took a liking to the hen. They roost in the trees. the rooster is named Chuck the "chook", that is what chickens are called in Australia. The hen was asked by my grandaughter (7 yrs) what she was called, and the hen replied BAAARB.
like BYC site, very educational. maybe some day I will try and hatch some of her eggs.

Hi and :welcome

Aww, that's a really sweet story.
You could try getting some sort of box and encouraging her to settle down and lay the eggs all in one place if you want to.

You can post pictures if you want to know the breed. There'll be people here who can tell you.
