New to BYC from Alabama

Welcome from East of Birmingham.
Your project sounds great if back breaking!
I am adding myself to the chorus when I express my thoughts and best wishes to your wife. That sounds like a scary condition. Processed foods are very much not the friend of people with food allergies.

I am looking forward to more stories from the Farm.

Eventually we would like to be commercial in a small scale. Everything we grow will be organic and raised with care.
We are working through the process to be zoned Agriculture now. This has been a process.
Assuming you’re already outside any city or town limits, what benefits would you gain being zoned agriculture?

I would assume taxes for one, and then of course a higher limit of animals they can keep on the property.
Birmingham is kind of like New York (a lot smaller of course): everything inside the interstate ring is Birmingham for practicality, even if it is made up of several smaller townships. The differences can be stark, but usually, only matter in things like crime statistics and of course ordinances. I am a good hour away, and plenty fo folks here commute to the big city for work. so outside of town is relative there.

@Alagirl is correct. Taxes are a big part but we have 3 zonings I can acquire in Sylvan Springs. I am Residential at the moment. I can go Rural Residential and am allowed one Barn only as well as a limit on animals also no on site store. going Ag removes most all restrictions and limits.

I am keeping my fingers crossed for you!
Maybe you are far enough out.
