Hello all from Hohenwald Tennessee where I am preparing for our first flock here in Tennessee.
I recently moved from Ohio where we had 6 buff orphington hens. We are going bigger this time with a total of 17 birds. 8 buff orphington hens, 1 buff rooster and some exotic birds that lay colered eggs. They are being hatched from murry mccmurry and should arrive june 10.
The weather in Tennessee is far different from way up in Ohio and that will be taken into consideration.
We are closing on our house next week and I will immediately get busy building a coop and pen. We are in extreme mountainous country and predators including large snakes will be an issue so I am taking that into account also.
I will have a few if not many questions for you guys and I hope you can help .
I am experienced in brooding of day old chicks and never lost a single chick. Back home in Ohio I didnt have to deal with many predators and I fear that it could become a challenge.
So here are the birds we selected. I wanted only buff orphingtons and my wife picked some different ones in pairs. The 17th bird is a "free exotic chick" from the hatchery so its a mystery bird lol
Thanks for having us.
