New to BYC (ordered two goslings yesterday and this will be my first time raising baby birds), just wanted to say hi!

Hi, I found this site to be extremely helpful while I prepared for welcoming two goslings into my home this week. They shipped yesterday, and I am freaking out and worrying so much about their arrival. I made a long post about it earlier: https://www.backyardchickens.com/th...e-arrival-any-thoughts.1477509/#post-24616581

I immediately regret that I shipped them, but I tried to find them locally and nothing is available on Long Island, especially since it is so late in the season. I found a few farms that had them but nothing within a four hour drive. Now, I'm wishing I'd made the drive . . .

I hope that they arrive safely and that I can start sharing my experience with y'all and I will be sure to ask all the questions I need to in order to raise them to be happy and healthy. I have an awesome brooder ready to go but I am trying not to get too excited in the event something goes wrong.

Hope to have good news soon!

Kimberly
Thank you all for your kind welcome. I am very nervous that I didn’t get the call this morning from the PO. I read a lot that most shipments come in before the PO even opens. I called and spoke to a nice lady yesterday at the PO who assured me she would be on the lookout, and I just called her a little before 9am and she confirmed they’re not there :(

I know it’s only Wednesday but i was really hoping they’d be here this morning. Now im worried they won’t be in until tomorrow morning. My tracking info says it s guaranteed delivered by 6pm today (I already know that’s not necessarily going to be true)

does anyone get chicks that arrive after 9am? Or is it almost always a morning delivery?

Hi and welcome to BYC :frowWe're so happy you've decided to join us:ya

Best of luck with your birds. You can call the lady at the PO back and she may be able to tell you where they are, based upon the tracking number. PO employees see more detail than we do. They may be on a later distribution truck heading to your local PO, or your district might use a special carrier to handle priority express. Even if you don't get them until tomorrow morning they should still be okay. What do you have for food and drink for them? If memory serves, Metzer ships with a cup or two of gro-gel to keep them sustained during the trip. If you have sav-a-chick or similar vitamin additive, I would offer both vitamin water and clean water.

I am literally going to do everything you just said. Thank you so much for the advice. I hope I get more info and I will be prepared for their arrival.
