The vets here won't see a chicken, so it's just me doing all the sewing and doctoring. I'm going to try taking the center out and see if that drains anything.
If that doesn't work I may try a shot of antibiotics and then as a last resort I can try taking the whole thing off and stitch up the slit.
That sound like the best thing to do. You are a good chicken owner!

I wish you luck. If you happen to have a helper that can take photos that would be great too. It will be interesting to see what it is and it may help others that encounter something similar down the road.

Keep us posted.

The spot on little girl is worse today. It's now kinda cracking in the middle. I put a glob of corona salve into the center to soften and possibly draw out any object. That is where her wattle is supposed to be, if that's a clue. I know that shape has to mean something, otherwise it'd just be a bump. Also I've added the powdered antibiotics to her drinking water.

I've still have never seen anything like that on a wattle. It does have a distinct center though. The drawing salve is a good idea. Who knows what causes infection like this, it could be from a peck, some type of but bite, a sliver of embedded bedding, etc.

She had taken a dirt bath and got the salve all dirty so I scratched that outta the dent and replaced it with pine tar salve now that its bedtime.
Also I gave her four drops of penicillin orally since she's just little and no meaty areas for a shot. I hope its better tomorrow! I held her and petted her up good so she got some luvins.

I had something similar, now I remember, on the wattle of one of my girls. I made a nick on the skin and squeezed it. A little ball of solid white stuff came out - i got rid of as much puss as possible, then used iodine and antibiotics. She was fine within 3 days.

That seems like what I should do too. When I checked her at bedtime she had scratched all the salve away: It must be itchy with her skin stretched like that.
I'll see tmw if its even bigger, then it does need to be expressed. I have to do the stitching and shots myself mostly because my helper is squeamish. It's easier to just do it myself. lol
