New to chickens - but designing coops - Yikes!

8 sqft per bird in the run is too small. My coop is very bright and I've no issues with that .. Seemingly neither do the chickens!
The easiest place to add ventilation is under the eaves and on the gable peaks, if your design has them, provided you have good overhang of the roof line.
Thanks for the feedback Tanya. I'm seeing recommendations in the article linked in a previous welcome at 10 sq ft each. The city requires 8 sq ft minimum but there is a 24 sq ft. x 2' high area under the coop which, brings it up to a total of 12 per bird (but only 8 of fly area). Are you able to point me to any other articles that talk about this?

Chickens are ground birds. The lighter body birds will occasionally fly short distances.
I'm basing the number on my personal experience as well as the countless number of threads I've read where the problems the author was posting about came down to a lack of personal space.

Welcome to Backyard Chickens. The first thing I learned on BYC was the space requirements and I know it was 10 sq.feet per bird in the outdoor run, and 4-5 ft.per bird (in the coop) excluding nest boxes and roost poles. Somewhat less for banty breeds.
