Hi,
My wife and I are building our own coop. Nothing fancy, a safe place in our back yard in the town with comfortable boxes for our girls to lay their eggs.
I have a shady spot that was an organic composted area full of good diggings like earth worms and other delicious chicken fun food.
I hope they will be happy, we will treat them like.pets and hope they work out for us.
With the great information and help from this site and the members I think were going to have some fun.
Any advise will be graciously appreciated.

Hello from OREGON!

I see you're in Florida...you will have predator problems no doubt. Build that coop and run like Fort Knox, especially for snakes. You will find a wealth of information here at BYC..I know I did!! Welcome aboard and good luck!

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Good luck with your coop build and be sure to check out the Coops section https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/2/Coops Another great place is the BYC Learning Center, lots of nice articles on all aspects of poultry keeping https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center and it is always fun to check out your state thread for chicken keeping neighbors and any advice they may have so far as coops etc go for you weather https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/305793/florida-always-sunny-side-up

Welcome to BYC! Make sure you use 1/4 inch hardware cloth (very strong mesh wire) instead of chicken wire to keep them safe! Good luck to you.
