i responded to an ad i saw:

furry footed chicken 7/19/2012
I have a really cute friendly Belgian d'uccle chicken. 5 months old, not sure of sex. Hand raised $10 not for food please.

but i wanted to see if anyone here knows what gender this bird might be...i'm leaning towards roo from the comb size, but the previous owner was told female on a few forums?

any insight or help would be appreciated :)

That is indeed a rooster. Female D'Uccles will have more mottling from everything I've seen in shows.

This is a hen

This is a roo

It seems to be making more cooing noises rather than the traditional roo crow... and more clucking? i'm really not sure at this point i've never had this breed before

Looks like a roo to me too, not quite developed his full hackle and saddle though at 5 months he is on the verge of maturing so you'll know soon enough

that is a mille fleur d'uccle COCKEREL im 40,000% sure on that as i raise them and a pullets comb will NEVER get that big at all. plus you can see it has some nice slinder hackles and you can also see some of the saddle feathers as well. color alone tells you its a cockerel. check out my albums

these are 2 golden neck d'uccle both 5-6 months of age

pullet

cockerel

bottom is a blue mille top is a mille both cockerels both have their saddles and hackles coming in although you cant see them that well in this pic same age as the other 2

Oh another Canadian! LOVE IT! :D

I know a few places, but I am in New Brunswick, so if you are looking for somewhere close, I can't help, sorry :(

Best bet is to look for shows in your area and find a breeder that has entered the type of bird you are looking for. If they don't have any at the time, ask to be notified when they will have some available.
