Hi! We have four 6-week-old chicks and they've outworn their welcome in our laundry room (stinky, stinky! plus they were spooked by our washer and dryer running constantly) and are now in our shed with the heat lamp. We're a little uncomfortable with running the heat lamp all day and night due to it being powered by a very old outlet. Temps are still cold here--overnight lows are 40 and even dipping into the 30's this weekend, so obviously too cold for them to be moved to the coop w/o heat now, but when might we expect to do so?

Thanks!

Also...they are so, so skittish. Is this normal??

As long as they have feathers they will be fine. They can also huddle together for warmth. I dunno if id chance it though. Throw them outside and see what they do. If they look uncomfortable and huddle together then its probably too cold for them. Skittish is fine. Try touching them a lot and picking them up to get them used to people.

I have my 3 week olds in the coop with a brooder box. and a lamp. but my 8 week old roo is running around with the hens. but he has a silky wing for night time.
