New to Ducks: need advice & help

Did a search and found this...

Set up a trot line with a weight in the center, bait the hooks with the same kind of fish that are in your pond, use steel leader hooks, the weight will keep them from swimming up for air, or you can pay someone to dredge the pond, but that wont work as well, just keep running that trot line with about #4 baitholder barb steel leader hooks, i called my grandpa on this one, he's from louisiana swamp country, they know all about this stuff, oh he said make sure the hooks are 2 feet apart and check and rebait once a day, when you stop catching them go to the next smallest sized hook for a few more days to be sure you have the population controlled, and get a few BIG catfish, they will eat any really young turtles

sounds like a thorough plan!

If you keep in mind that turtles lay eggs on the "beach" around the pond, keep an 'nightful' eye out for their egg laying and destroy the eggs as soon as the mother covers up the nest. In our case, the turtles finally "moved on" into someone else's territory.

You must stay vigilant. The turtles will take the opportunity to return, season to season. Keep in mind, turtles have to come to the surface to breathe...that's the best time to nab them with the net.

A friend just advised me that if you take a gallon milk jug, capped off to prevent water from entering, tying that to a fishing line, with a hook at the end, baited with a piece of chicken; when you see the milk jug bob in the water net him!

and I personally think its more humane all the way around to EAT THE SNAPPERS. Relocating them only brings someone else grief and I dont think its fair to the turtles either. Quick humane SOUP! lol.

I may have video of snapper catching to post -- stay tuned!

Miss Lydia, where in WNC do you live? I am in Swannanoa near WWCollege...
