I do not have any chickens. I just recently acquired 2 pet black Swedish ducklings. I was looking for information on proper nutrition and care and this site forums kept coming up in my searches. I have found it very informative and helpful when trying to find the needed information. I have retired from horse breeding and training, of primarily AQHA horses. I have always liked ducks, just never had time until now to have any. I have appreciated the forums and the information that I have been able to find from experienced owners of ducks. I have learned as a kid growing up with horses, that often experience/insight from knowledgable horse people can be very valuable. I found this site by searching online for information about Duck nutrition requirements, illnesses, and sexing ducklings around the beginning of March 2019. I wanted to join this group because everyone always seemed so helpful and kind in the forums when Newbies ask questions and are in need of helpful information. With most animals, I know prevention and routine are the keys to better outcomes. Thanks to everyone on these forums that take the time to give such helpful information to others. I am not experienced enough with the ducks to be of help to anyone, but I have seen on this site that there are other horse people like myself. So if I can ever help anyone in that area please feel free to ask. Thanks for accepting me to BYC!

Welcome, Ms Rose! I'm sure you will enjoy being a member. There are plenty of really knowledgeable, helpful duck folks at BYC.

My ducks are all Indian runners, so that's really all I know. I do know ducks can eat (I always use non-medicated) chick starter, but need extra niacin. I once spent a bundle buying the right niacin at a health food store. After that, I just made sure to feed my ducklings plenty of frozen peas, and all grew up healthy.

Good luck with your ducks! The black Swedish are lovely looking birds.

Hello and welcome to BYC - thanks for joining us. Please make yourself at home. There’s quite a few horsey peeps here on BYC and at least one thread - “adventures of harry the horse” (or something like that).

This is a useful link of “How to” BYC guides to take a look at announcements-feedback-issues-guides.3. I’d suggest including your location using the guide in the link. You can use this link to contact members in your area - Find your State's thread.

Best wishes
