Hello, this year I got my first emdem goosling. I don't know if it's a male or female yet, but I love it. I'm wanting to buy it a mate since I read they can live to be in their 20s. That brings me to my questions, would you guys recommend just getting another emdem goose of the opposite sex or is there other breeds you guys like to breed with Emdem? The goose is mainly here for protection of my flock. Although we do sell the eggs and once they hatch a clutch we will probably cull the males for dinner, production isn't the number one priority. Also, if anyone has any pictures of any Emdem crosses I would love to see them! Thanks!

Purebred hatching eggs and goslings would sell better than mixes, so if you plan to sell, another Embden is good for that reason.

I'm so glad you're getting another one. Geese really do need at least one other goose friend. A lot of people think it's fine to keep just one but that's not true.

I agree with Pyxis that a purebred would sell for the most, and it definitely is a great idea to have another gosling. However, they should be as similar in age as possible, to prevent any possible fighting and etc. Geese tend not to welcome each other when they're smaller. Even with my ducks, the younger by one month needed to be integrated over a long period of time.
