Chicken genetics can be funny like that -- also keep in mind that down color at hatch is not always indicative of plumage color at maturity -- how old are these chicks? Mixed breed birds, such as the rooster in this equation, bring a lot of unknowns to the table.

Yesterday 4-16-17 Easter babies anyways I was shocked when I seen two black chicks from my solid pearl white hen. I love them though. Adds some color to my flockz

The folks on the "what breed or gender is this." thread also know about color genetics. If you post your question to them, I bet they have an answer for you.

Welcome!

As you have already received links to some good starting points, I will just wish you all the best.

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

If you would like to share pictures and stories of your flock, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out
