new to incubation

I just read on this site that they may have survived. Now I feel really sick! With no movement when I pipped I just figured they were dead. Could I have been wrong?

It does sound as if they had died and that your incubator temperatures were fairly low. Your 2nd batch sounds as if they are coming along, the hen does get off the nest during the first 18 days so some cooling at this time is okay. The brinsea advanced actually has a cooling feature that you can set. Sorry about your first batch, it is very disappointing and sad. But you have gained valuable knowledge for subsequent hatches. Keep us posted for this one. Be sure to calibrate your thermometers and hygrometer. The built in one's are notoriously off by a lot. Fingers crossed.

I don't have a hygrometer. I did learn a lot from this. Always be prepared for emergency situations. I'm hoping the 11 eggs in the second batch make it. The electricity was off for 3 hours and it had dropped below 90°, close to 80. I did pip one and I noticed it bled from the veins. I took this as a sign that they may have a chance at survival
That one life may have saved 7 others! I will keep the second batch updated here. I'm already starting a new clutch. Is there a certain way I should clean my hovabator or do I even need to?

Will you be doing an eggtopsy? If the second batch doesn't show any more growth on day 17, then I'll be eggtopsying them. Though I know what would have caused it. The chick I did pip looked like a little big eyed alien! So ugly it was cute! My stepdad heard about what happened and gave me $100 to try and recoop what I lost, as I had some rare eggs in the clutch. It certainly helped. Going next Friday to get 4 more egg layers. I'm thinking either some more Ameraucaunas(sp?) or some Polish maybe a couple of both. Not sure. Depends on what they have available!

Clean thoroughly with bleach and let dry in the sun.
