New to Pheasants

I strongly believe in hardware cloth.Nothing can get thru it.I can get it fairly cheap if you need it.The 4'x100' is 125.00 per roll.
In N.H.,Tony.

Hardware cloth is a little to harsh on flighty birds like ring necks. Geo netting or poultry cloth, not wire, is the best option for birds that get scared easy such as ringnecks

Do not use any chicken wire or sharp objects in building your pen. Ringnecks will fly up and damage the are around their top beak around "nostrils" and it will bleed. Ringnecks are very cannibalistic and they will peck the blood. This will cause your ringnecks to peck at eachother constantly and in many cases they kill and individual or individuals! Also make sure you use a shallow waterer. Ringnecks are prone to drowning themselves, so a shallow water dispenser helps detour that. Make sure there is plenty of cover around the pen! Because as I have said before they are VERY canibalistic even when given adequate space. Also from many years of personal experience I have found it to be much cheaper and easier to buy chicks every year instead of keeping breeder pairs. When buying many birds they are so cheap anyways. Plus ringnecks don't lay in one specific area they just lay wherever they deem fit. Which also cause many eggs to get broken. And hatchery chicks are much healthier than home hatched ones. Again ringnecks aren't easy to raise. They require lots of attention their first months and get out very easy.

If you already knew this I'm sorry I wasted your time. And I hope I haven't offended you! I'm sure you will do get. Good luck and if you have any other questions feel free to PM me! Go Bucks and Dayton flyers! From one Ohioan to another!

I'll have to agree with Tony on the hardware cloth. Keeps the pheasants in and predators out. I have had no wire related injuries.

Got most of the siding up. Ran out of old wood for it. I will go pick some more up this weekend.

Brooder is progressing. I have all the siding done except one piece. I was one board short. Dang it. I will go pick some more up tomorrow. All that is left is build my main door and cut their door in. I also still need to staple some hardware cloth up in the top to close in the sides. I also still need to put some cardboard inside to round the corners.

I will go tomorrow to get the rest of my supplies. Feeders, waterers, and heat lamps. Should be completely up and running no later than Friday. I will turn the heat lamps on Sunday to get everything set at the right temp. A week from tomorrow I will go pick up the chicks.

I will try to get some pics tonight as I am working on a few things and then will get some more as I finish things up.

Now I need to get moving on the outside fencing and top netting so I am ready for when they are itching to go outside.

Here in TN we have a few Farmer supply stores call Co-Op, they usually have a good variety of fencing from 1/4 x 1/4 inch up to pig wire. If you do not have store like that, then check TS online store and I bet it can be ordered. We have a TS as well but they do not carry in stock most of the items that the Coop does, but TS always says they can check and see if they can order it, when I need it yesterday!
TS online store is better and I believe you can have items shipped to your house during order.
Co-Op- online store is bad, and I think you have to call and order (old school) but then again everything I have ever needed was there.

Other alternatives- If you cant find what you need at either and need it "yesterday", you might consider calling some fencing companies, but I am sure the fence will cost more as most are private, independent, commercial or custom contractors.
