New to Quail, a few questions

Are the blue scale real vocal David? I kinda thrive on a loud quail. dont care for the common barnyard avian loud. But quail are different.

Agree, Bobwhites have been rather quiet, My corturnix are acutally the breed that call the most

my males call all day, but i think this person mention that they will only have females, and all they do is make the little egg call, or w/e it is, not loud at all.

THE OP HAS NOT SPECIFIED ANYTHING OTHER THAN A DESIRE FOR A TYPE OF QUAIL? WHAT TYPE EFFECTS AMOUNT OF ROOM NEEDED AND BEHAVIORS TO BE EXPECTED... NO NEED FOR OTHER POSTERS TO GET FRAIL THINKING I'M CONTRADICTING THEIR ANSWERS

BOB HENS CAN GET RATHER LOUD IF STEALTH IS A PREFERENCE... THATS WHY I POINTED OUT EVERYONE ANSWERED FROM A COTURNIX STAND POINT.

UNFORTUNATELY INEXPERIENCED OR LIMIT EXPOSURE FOLKS MAY OVERLOOK THE FACT THAT THERE ARE AT LEAST 48 DIFFERENT SPECIES OF QUAIL ON THIS PLANET (NOT COUNTING PIGMYS) AS WELL AS THE FACT THAT THIS FORUM ATTRACTS FOLKS FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD... SO IT'S ALWAYS HELPFUL TO SPECIFY THE SPECIES IN QUESTION.

COTURNIX ANSWERS AS APPLIED TO NEW WORLD SPECIES CAN WREAK HAVOK AND VICE VERSA, AS THEY ARE VERY VERY DIFFERENT IN BEHAVIORS AND METHODS. IN AN EFFORT TO BE HELPFUL TO ALL I USUALLY TRY TO GET SPECIFICS SIMPLY BECAUSE THESE FACTS EFFECT THIS FORUM AND I WOULD NEVER WANT TO MISLEAD OR WRONGLY ADVISE ANYONE, LET ALONE A QUAIL ROOKIE.

So, um.... Hey There WineChicks!

What kind of quail were you interested in getting? What climate do you live in? Are you wanting them for pets, eggs, meals...all of the above?

I raise coturnix, my hens are not overly loud but they do make noise, the boys are another story lol. I have also raised buttons and bobwhites and neither has that noisy of a call for the females, they do make egg noise or chirp when I feed them but they are not overly loud.

In the summer time, I can hear my Bobs before I get up in the morn'n if I sleep a little late... I absolutely love the "hoy pey" when they are all cut'n up!!!l That's one of the main reasons I keep bobs. They are even louder when the wild bobs come to visit... It is a site to behold!!
