new to quail (my new quail pics)

Welcome to poultry anonymous, my name is Sheila and I'm a fellow addict:D
The guy we bought the 2-week-old Texas A&Ms had adults for sale too so naturally, I bought a breeding group of 5;) They lay such huge eggs! Weighed one last night & it was .75 oz!

Rechecked the first 20 cots we got & we ended up with 9 males & 11 females. We're getting 14-15 eggs a day:thumbsup Those cots also came with 6 free button quails & I got busy dividing them by pairs this weekend & putting them in 10-gallon aquariums. I'm hoping I have a male & female in each (not sure about 1).

Keep us posted on your new chicks--you take such awesome pictures:) What camera do you use?

I am not an addict....I can quit anytime I want. I'm just here for the free cookies and juice. I'm not hurting anyone but myself. I just raise poultry socially. ...

.75 oz...Yikes! That's awesome you are getting all those eggs! I had one group laying good, then I moved them and they quit. I had no quail a few weeks ago and now have almost 100...lol.

Thanks for the compliment! I need to go around and take more pics of the quail! I have 2 cameras. All the pics that happen to be in this thread are from my Sony SLT-A65V. My other camera was hanging off of a fence a couple months ago. I looked over and my billy goat was giving it a thrashing....lol. It doesn't focus very well since. I need toget it fixed. It's a Canon Powershot S51S. I have a few thousand pics on this forum...lol....most are from the Canon that "was" always around my neck while working the place. Still learning on the Sony. I have really found it fun to take lots of pictures!

Not sure if I mentioned this or not, but my parents had someone get some eggs from them to hatch. It was for his daughters school project so they just gave them to him. They were going to bring the chicks back, but they fell in love with them when they hatched.

Mom sent some feed home with them when they got the eggs and told them what kind of feed they ate, just in case they decided to keep them.

Great pictures! I'm a week away from my potential first hatch and just showed my mom (who is visiting) your photos. She thinks they're adorable.

(Isn't it nice when moms are encouraging? LOL) By now your latest have hatched (I think) how is that going?

I have quail in assortment of things, but I've been making quite a few of these...

They are 4 ft long, 2 ft wide and 1 1/2 ft tall. I have 4 quail tops at the moment in each one and have been putting them in my barn. I completely cover the bottoms with hay and am working on covering the outsides with pine branches and putting stuff inside for enrichment. I wish they could all be in bigger tractor type things but have too many breeding groups at the moment to be able to afford fancier pens. Headed to go make more now.
Could you tell me how you make these? Anything will help as I've never built anything with hardware cloth before. Thanks!

Can they really lay more than an egg a day? We have 16 ladies & 4 gents so I think we're within the expected amount of 14-15 eggs/day. Although, since I switched them to a 26% organic feed they have gone down to 11-13 eggs/day. Our 19 5-week old Texas A&Ms will be sexed & segregated into breeding pens today & we'll start incubating our first eggs after Christmas!

Processed my first 7 coturnix males for the first time. It was nerve-racking. But easier really than I expected. I made sesame quails with them & for the eggs we collected for the week, pickled them in beet brine.

easy, get a roll of 1/2 inch hardware cloth wire, a good set of wire snips, some j clips and a crimper from home depot or store of your choice and it's farely obvious once you gather up your materials.
