new to quail (my new quail pics)

That's the incubator I have well I have the advance with auto turn but that only works with 12 eggs it works really good you can probobly get 30 in there just place them in the best position for space. When the incubator is packed full like that just put 2 phone books under one side and switch sides 3 times a day it works pretty goot

400
that's 21 eggs and there's lots of room

Sounds like you have a plan. I was talking to my mom a bit ago and she told me that our oldest male has gotten to be pretty friendly with my dad. He has a cinnamon, a tux, and an A&M in with him. The A&M let's my dad pet her. Funny considering that Holla (the male) never liked anyone before. He waits for my dad to stick his hand in the cage and pecks at him.

Really missing my birds right now. I miss my chickens too.

We have a big pen and coop that we moved all of our dual purpose chickens out of about 5 months ago that dad plans to turn into a quail pen. He just needs to move it and it's pretty heavy. Chances are he's going to wait until I get home to set it up. I don't have a very good picture of it, but this is it.

I have a plan....not sure if it is a good one...lol. I'll have like 105 breeding groups...

. That looks like a nice big pen for a quail pen! Does sound like you are ready to be around your birds! I have some really tame ones and think it is neat they let me pet them. I was surprised that most of the ones I bought are so calm...didn't think they would be. I've ran into some overly aggressive ones already though and a couple more flightly ones. These little babies are a blast! I've been sticking my hand down in with them every chance I get.

You sound like me when I started quail hoarding I'm looking into getting another bator as I think I need to hatch more than 28 eggs at a time for some reason I have 23 in my incubator on day 7 two 10 day old test birds in the brooder. (Test birds) well it's winter here people say you won't be able to hatch eggs that were exposed to cold -20c to be exact. 2 of 5 hatched not bad eh! So I loaded up my bator after those hatched with 28 eggs, well the dog had lunch on 3 one wasn't starting to develop and now I have 23 in there doing very well in the incubator that is. So goes to show u one person will say something and you can have your own first hand contradicting results. Quail breeding is awesome
"quail hoarding"...lol. Just getting going and agree...quail breeding is awesome! Good Luck on these 23! I stop turning 20 eggs tomorrow and then will have the 52 in there left. After this, I'm going to clean out my bator real good and maybe do a big batch of Tibetans right after??? The way I have been hatching these chickens, ducks and quail out...I have to always be in there turning eggs while others are on lockdown. I can do it now without dropping humidity much, but it still drops. I'm thinking about building another bator for having the mulitple hatches going or one just for lockdowns. Yeah, seems like I try to read all I can on stuff, then sort it all out for myself and what I'm going to do. Some things I experiment on, some I don't. I'd experiment on egg temps for sure. I bought a set of scales and got them yesterday...I'm going to research quail egg weights and hacthing rates like I have read and heard about.

I have quail in assortment of things, but I've been making quite a few of these...

They are 4 ft long, 2 ft wide and 1 1/2 ft tall. I have 4 quail tops at the moment in each one and have been putting them in my barn. I completely cover the bottoms with hay and am working on covering the outsides with pine branches and putting stuff inside for enrichment. I wish they could all be in bigger tractor type things but have too many breeding groups at the moment to be able to afford fancier pens. Headed to go make more now.

Thanks silver-quail! That picture clearly shows there will be room for all 30. My daughter will be disappointed that there won't be extras for her lunch tomorrow! I got a call from the post office this morning, our eggs are waiting for me to pick them up.
