New to quail

mine usually lay by the watering hole...but I think it's because that's where they spend most of their time in this heat!

always nice to see another AZ peep!

Mine like to lay in any spot where they feel sheltered. One hen prefers to hide out in the coop to lay hers. I usually find a couple in the "quail-holes" that they dig in the corners of their pen, a couple under the ramp that goes up into the coop, and a couple under the rain shelter that covers their dust bath. I have a cement block that I put on its side at the end of the shelter so that they would have a tunnel to jump through, and I have even found eggs inside that.

HI all, I have been surffing around and reading post on quail. I have been think of getting a few. I'am SO green when it comes to quail.
What breed is the best for a newbie?
Do you need a license to raise quail for a few eggs?
Any info would be great, from the quail owners, I find info from ppl that have raised thing by trail and errors give the best info. Thanks all..

Side Note, Here. I got a laugh this morning when I opened the quail forum and saw this thread started by No Skiveez with the last post by Bare Bottom Farm. Sorry, I just had to share that, now back to your regularly scheduled thread.

If you are looking for a mini chicken, then the Japanese Coturnix is the quail for you. They are quite tame and fun. Plus the eggs are a bonus (if you get a hen of course

The button quail are awesome too, they are more finch like, however, being the tiniest quail in the world. Not really tame, They do come in amazing colors though.

Now, now, don't forget about using the extra button quail eggs if you don't want to hatch them. Boil yourself up a couple dozen of those bad boys and have a SMALL egg salad sandwhich!
