New to raising chickens

Hello and welcome to BYC! My RIR rooster is still friendly, not exactly the lap sitting type, and he is 2 1/2 years now. However, despite his gentleness towards me and being a very attentive and protective rooster, he is a bit of a clumsy and rough "lover" with the girls. He isn't mean at all, just lacking in grace, So I keep him separate from the girls.

Welcome to BYC. They will get out what you put into them... (So they'll stay friendly if you keep babying them.) Except for the rooster.

The rooster may behave well, attack you or try to keep the hens from you. At this point, no way to know until he grows up. Especially right around 1.5 years. If he makes it to 2 years friendly he'll probably always be friendly.

Oh I’m pretty sure I will continue to baby them even if they don’t want to cuddle anymore

Really looking forward to some eggs! But loving this growing stage too. My husband didn’t think he could care about chickens but he comes out to talk with them everyday and even has a favorite

They are very fun pets that give us Breakfast!

Yeah, my usual advice is to raise roosters hands-off because they're less likely to become aggressive that way. But you're pretty far along so it probably won't work.

I've had the sweetest birds, Black Sex Link, Easter Eggers, and Barred Rock. I now have a RIR , same upbringing, raised from 2 weeks, not as sweet though. In my experience , they can become less cuddly as they mature, kind of like kids. As long as your're handing out treats , they'll love you!
