New to raising chickens

:frow Welcome from New Orleans. There is a lot of great information on coop designs in the articles. I suggest you read thru some of them before building. Also build bigger than you think you need. Chicken math is real and the more room your chickens have the better. (keeps your flock calmer). Also build so you can add on if you wish. Ask questions, we have very knowledgeable people who will be happy to help if they can.

Santa sure was good to you this year, you must have been especially good to receive such great presents.
Keep us posted on how you are coming along. (My husband and I built our first coop in a weekend.). And do use the hardware cloth. We went to the top of our coop with the hardware cloth.

Welcome to BYC.
You'll need a coop quickly.
Be sure to include plenty of ventilation. They need at least 1 sq foot (hardware covered) opening per chicken. Especially when it's cold. Don't be tempted to cover the openings in cold weather.
They also need 1 ft of roost per chicken and 4 sq foot on the floor, not counting nest boxes. You need at least a 100 sq ft covered run with room for two feeders and waters.
Don't skimp on space, ventilation, or hardware cloth and your girls will stay healthy.

Hiya, and welcome to BYC!! :frow Awesome Christmas present!

We have a great Learning Center you might want to check out to get ideas.

If at all possible, look at remodeling a shed or ice fishing house or build one yourself. We'll all talk you out of those prefab ones as they are always too small and don't last. Go bigger than you think and ask along the way if you have questions.
