Hello Everyone,
We just purchased out first batch of chickens. We have 8 girls and have fallen in love them all.
In Nov our last child left the roost so we decided to replace them all with chickens:thumbsup

The girls joined our family March 23rd. The are all Long Island Reds. We put colored bracelets on 6 of the 8 and have named them so we can tell them apart. We haven't been able to catch the last 2.
This last weekend we let them free range both days from 9am-5pm. It was a great experience. I'm afraid we are never going to want to leave the house again because they are so fun to watch and interact with. I loved working with flowers in the yard, they were right next me the entire time. I was never alone. It was so great!!
We have 2 outdoor cats and they have transitioned flawlessly to the girls. We also have a 5yr old border collie who is taking a little more work but she's getting it.
I found BYC through Pinterest, I was looking for a list of poisonous plants for the girls.
I joined immediately. I'm excited to learn lots about our new family members from your wonderful site.

Welcome! Glad you're having fun. We have our first chicks in a brooder, and primarily indoor cats - one who wants to get outdoor time whenever he can, so he'll probably go out with Daughterlign on egg runs and such - and I'd love to hear how you did things with introducing your cats to them. Our cats have seen them ... through the brooder wire.

Your nest sure wasn't empty for very long! Best wishes with your new "children!"
