New to this forgive me

Welcome to Backyard chickens. Rule of thumb is 4-5 sq.feet per bird in the coop excluding roosts and nest boxes. In the run allow 10 sq.feet per bird. A covered run will give them protection from raptors and climbers. It if has a solid roof it will provide some protection from the elements and shade from the sun.

@Teila you rock :bun This is so helpful.

Aaaw, thank you but I can not take any credit; unless I posted on any of those threads; I know I have on some ToW's :)

Credit goes to @sumi for coordinating the ToW's and to the members for contributing :clap

As I say often .. The Topic of the Weeks are an awesome resource and give readers the ability to see in one place how members 'feel' about some topics without having to search multiple threads.

Ok that's good news for your girls. If you're willing to give them that it be more than I had as a kid.:) Do you worry about deconstioning the birds to the heat?
Yes, I do definitely worry about that. I've decided I prefer comfort over hardiness, but it worries me to think they would become reliant on me controlling their temp. I may change my stance over time, I'm still learning too :)
