I don't recommend heat lamps.

More experienced chick raisers use momma heat pads or brooder plates. They are safer, use less energy and are closer to the natural way a chick would warm itself.

I am not a fan of heat lamps. I use a brooder plate and all of my chicks have thrived under it! Less of a fire hazard and more natural for the babies.
