I have a bourbon red female turkey and I know this sounds silly but do they need a male turkey to lay eggs? I’ve had chickens all my life but I know nothing about turkeys and thought I would give it a try !

Turkeys are seasonal layers and typically lay eggs from spring until fall once they are mature. They also have the tendency to go broody. The only requirement for a male turkey is if you want fertile eggs.

Turkeys are very social birds and do best with another turkey for a companion. Another turkey hen as a companion is a good idea.

No, you do not need a tom. It is true they have a bit of a tough time without other turkeys around. We love raising turkeys, I'm sure you'll have a great time getting to know her. Best of luck!
